tubular 8 pin/ 7 pin offset

Postby glamour » 5 Aug 2007 18:24

hello! i've never really commented much on here, as you can tell by the pathetic total on the left <-------! Even so i've been registered for ages and i've read every god-damn thing on here! Thanks to you all for that!

Anyway i'll get to the point, i remember reading ages ago that a 8 pin tubular pick works on the 7 pin left and right offset locks, is that right? I really can't remember much about it, also whats the deal with the domed centres? I realise its like an anti drilling technique or something as i had to drill another one at work the other day and it takes FOREVER! The locks we use actually have the domed centres, not the sort that have like a small ball-bearing in them. (Is there a difference in profile of these or is it just a different companies way of making them?). I've wanted a set of the HPC ones for a while but never bought any as its still unclear in my mind. I want to be able to open 7's with and without offsets, and also 8's... BUT as i said i come across a lot of the domed sort (i install media projectors in security cages and the moron teachers always, always lose the keys).

I've searched on the site but i didn't find this exact kind of subject so i thought i'd ask..

Please help me, i'm sick of standing on ladders drilling locks!
I must have the biggest collection of blunt 6 & 10mm's in england!

Yes, the offset 7s are really just 8s missing one pin.

AFAIK, the domes are just that companies way of making drilling difficult.

If you are buying the tools with your employer's money, get the HPCs. If it's your money, you may want to look at the Southords or the Southern specialties versions.

Not quite sure what a domed tubular is either. But as for a pick tool for these locks, I suggest the Peterson Pro-1 tool. That thing will pick so many different types of tubular locks out there. The only ones I don't think it can open is the TuBar and the Van Lock.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
