ok this is not too important but we have a "server room" where it is a very nice locking handle. however we never got a key. it is not too important because we have a key card to the door but it would be nice to be able to gain access if the power fails. I have picked some things before, a master padlock and my house (boy i feel safe after that ) But i tried to pick it for a hr and nothing. It could be my hand made picks but i could not get in. if needed i could give the make of the lock. Thanks

If you have access to the inside of the room and you want to rekey the lock there is no need to pick it. Take the lock off the door shim the cylinder open and rekey it.

It is possible to completely disassemble the lock from the other side, but it is really a pain to take apart the entire thing.

A couple of points....
1. Why are you picking a lock in use when you clearly dont have much experience, a
2. Why are you picking a lock you do not own, does the owner know you have been trying to pick the lock?
3. If its so nessacery for a key, why do you not just call a locksmith out, and they could quite easily make a key to it in less than half an hour.
But really unless you are quite experienced, or its a life or death situation (in which case destructive entry would probably be better if you not too good at picking) you really should not be picking a lock that is in use, if in picking the lock, you stuff the lock, and cant acess the server room at all what would you do then?

Doesn't mean much. Non-profit are simply supposed to be profit neutral. Their employees are paid just as well, if not better than for-profit sectors.

It depends on the hardware/lock. If it's a Best ICORE, you have two choices:
1. Pick the control line and pull the core.
2. Drill it out
Some door hardware have a little button you push at the base of the knob. I seem to recall seeing one that prevents the actuation of this button until you already have the core removed from the handle.

well if i do break it, it does not mader, since the key card uses a electronic lock which is not part of the door lock. Also, i dont think i want to go as far as drilling it out. Yes the owner knows about this.

If you can get into the room then you either want to remove the lock from the inside, or impression the lock. I'm guessing it's KeyInKnob by what your saying, i'd say try impressioning some locks in your hands then attempt the same thing with that door lock.

your local locksmiths or keycutters, enquire there.
what type of lock is it? - considering it's separate to the electronic part. . . I was thinking it would be easier just to reinstall another lock, IF its cheaper and easier
