For the type of rake that is in the lock I agree that it will be very hard on the lock.
I recently bought an electric pumpkin carver and have been experimenting with it as an electric rake. It's movement is about 3/16 of an inch back and forth. I made a pick very similar to the one in the photo and it tends to catch the pins and lets just say, its yanks them. If I take the sane pick and get it right at the bottom of the pins it works fairly well.
I plan on making some different pick styles to experiment with. I think that a rake similar to a bogota might work better or maybe something with very small notches that were rounded off (inverted shallow peeks)instead of sharp peeks might work very well.
Here's a photo of the pumpkin carver with the attached rake. If you can find one it will be a lot less expensive to make. The blades in mine are not replaceable so I found a way to attach any pick I wanted.
