It has nothing to do with trusting you Proctor. It has to do with the rules of the site and the image of locksport. How do you think it looks to someone who stops by to check (which I'm sure alot of people who work for companies with acronyms do) and we have posts out in the open about opening cashboxes? As far as I'm concerned you are a trusted and valued member of the site, but this thread should not be here.
Back when I was a noob there was a 5+ page thread of "found locks" with clear instances of petty theft. As I recall it was tolerated in the same tone as a "did you ever steal anything as a kid" conversation. With disapproval and shaking heads.
Site culture has definately changed from " :/ " to " :O ".
I'm not exactly complaining. My perception prolly has as much to do with my memory of it as anything else, but there's no doubt there has been a change.
As far as this topic: lockpick doesn't accomplish anything that an actual thief wouldn't have already done with a screwdriver. Obviously not a quick and sneaky deal cause they had time to post pictures. Besides that: credibility comes in to play.
n00b with cashbox=snubbed because we feel like it, he has nothing to offer us so why waste time helping the lazy
op=not n00b/who cares? it's a cash box. he'll get a screwdriver if it's stolen. Worst case we save the owner of the cash box $20 if the stolen box is ever recovered due to it's non-ruined state.
I agree with whoever said that the mindless parroting of "rules" in threads when they aren't even applicable get's old. IE: dialing instructions for a padlock.
The advanced forums are only worth as much to this site as they are in fact advanced. If the only non-advanced topic is picking boring standard pin tumbler locks, suddenly the advanced forums become worthless and unattractive to the exact people they are intended to attract, and the average knowledge level ceases to rival on locksmith level and becomes an issue of 1 trick ponies.
Clearly that's the rough draft. I need sleep.
