Manufacters key don't work on their locks

Postby prag » 19 May 2008 13:39

I had this problem today and a few other times too. This was a Union 4 lever lock and the manufacturers keys would not just work.
Needless to say it was a trip to the client and a bit of fileing.
My gripe is that this is suppose to be a key made by the manufacturers and should work.

LESSON LEARNT................... Always check and double check. ALWAYS. It cost less.......... :P

First, please refrain from making 3 different threads for the same lock problem. One is pleanty. Second, are you saying you installed a lock and did not even try it to see if it was properly working? That is what it seems like from reading over your 3 threads.

HAHA I have missed your wit sir!! I have been busy looking for those pesky legless things.

To the OP you will get very little sympathy from working lockies with this situation because rule number one is always check your work. But yeah it is annoying. I have found some F-series Schlage with graphite filling the chambers where the wrong pin has been used and they just sprayed until it did somehow.

^ The amount of customers that i have to explain the dangers of graphite...

A powder does not put material back on the key or pins in the lock. People's keys don't work well, because of wear and tear, so they insist on basically creating another container for their graphite. On their door.

Firstly, if I may just kindly state, this 4 lever lock was another installation job I did.

Secondly, I learnt my lesson that I need to check each key because it was a waste of money to drive all that way to rectify the key.

Second, are you saying you installed a lock and did not even try it to see if it was properly working?

I checked if the lock worked but not with all 3 keys, you are correct, I should have checked all keys. Like I said, Lesson learnt.

Thank you for your responses. 8)
