Kwikset is claiming patent infringement and is suing Master Lock. I can't find the full complaint online, but I was wondering if anyone knows more about this case.
They are suing for infringement related to Masterlock's "recodable" locks. They are instantly rekeyable like the smartkey, and make use of a change tool, like the smartkey.

Doubtful. Many generic locks are made with the KW1 keyway and specs. I have a lock with ATLAS brand with KW1 keyway and I have no idea who makes it... It was like $10.
AWwwWWwww, son of a B**** man!! As soon as I thought I had the Kwikset Smart Key under control as far as lock out calls are concerned now Master Lock has to make their own version? The year isn't even half way through and I've already spent over $5000 in tools. Does this ever end?
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

heh, if the lawsuit takes hold, maybe you won't have to sweat it

I have discovered on any job I have every tool except the one I need.
