When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Postby jamie79512 » 18 Aug 2008 16:40

Has anyone tried the vinyl covers from southord? if so can you tell me how they are, and if not what do you think of them?

They are seen in the first four picks of this picture

I forgot to mention is $2.25 for a package of nine. Just the sleeves. You don't think they are worth it? I know "plasti-dip" is good but idk, these look alright.

I know electrical doesnt normally leave residue, but i've never left it on anything for a long period of time. Does it leave any residue on the pick?

if you take it off yeah, ive got picks that have had the same tape on for 8-12 months and they get a fair amount of use.

Ah okay thanks, i went and bought some electrical tape but all they had was cheap crap that had sticky edges.. I wrapped a less used pick and its okay. Next time i'll go for the good stuff (they just didn't have any)

The Southord rubber grips aren't terrible, but it is really a matter of style and preference. If you've got a lot of flat picks with no handles and you are using them most of the day and your hands start to sweat and your skin softens up, then they are great. They are not really good with feed back though. I prefer something solid like aluminum or even a hard plastic is okay. However, if you like putting about three coats of plasti-dip on your picks, you'll probably like the Southord rubber grips, and they're reusable and much much more durable than shrink wrap or plasti-dip.
There's nothing what can't be done with a lil Trailer Park Ingenuity.

I've tried a set of them but I didn't really feel comfy with them. They make the pick too think for my taste, and didn't feel much feedback either. That said, it's prolly just lack of time to adjust and a case of personal preference.

I use 'em all the time. Lots of people say you lose feedback but they just didn't put enough effort in. I only barely touch the sleeve when I'm picking so it doesn't really matter I guess, just a habit.

I'm addicted to heat-shrink, I like it because you can really add more to them and they look really clean.

i have these grips and i'm not a fan.. They're bit of a pain to get on the picks and like others mentioned you do lose some feedback.. However you do need something for those plain picks.. I tried picking with out the grips and found that my had become sore pretty quick...

They're pretty comfy, but, I personally prefer metal handles though (like on HPCs). I had to put them in hot water to fully get them on the pick, but they stay on the pick nicely, so that's not really a problem.
