LOCKPICK HANDLES- its benefits

Postby yono » 7 May 2009 4:41

Previously, i dont give so much attention with my pick handles, they seems ok for me, until i was picking a sargent mortise cyl. that took me so long and wasnt successful in picking it. i look for an alibi to myself. maybe my picktool was not so corportable. so with lot of brass sheets file in the shop (1mm x 100mm x 300mm)i decided to fabricate a handle. with a measurement of: 1mm(thickness) x 12mm(width) x 100mm(lenght) and now i said i dont have any more alibi. try to pick the stubborn sargent cyl. and with luck, this time i did it. i realize, the weight is right, the width and the lenght suite my "feel". if you think it might work for you try to make one too. here is the picture.

Are those rivets in your handles? How exactly did you make them, (ie tools/materials)?

to Michaelpaz, first, i did punch an extra hole on the hachsaw blade, then i lay it on the handle to pinpoint the holes. drill with a 3.5mm drillbit, countersunk slightly with a bigger drill bit and rivet it together. the overall thickness of the handle is 3mm. thanks for the interest.regards

Thanks for the reply and attention to detail. I appreciate it! I asked as I want to start dabbling in DIY and needed to know what kind of tools it takes to make something to be proud of.
