Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

I love picking ML#1 for a moral boost. But I suggest maybe a slight bit of tension (literately almost none) and just a touch of raking, you should have it in no time, granted you don't already.

Nope, still haven't gotten this one. Looking at the key it seems pretty easy but I just can't get it. The springs feel so so so loose too. Nothing like the #3 or the kwikset/slage deadbolts I have.

I'm very new to lock picking and am also working with a Master Lock #1. I recently discovered part of my problem picking it was a didn't realize when I'd actually picked it. I was turning it just enough that all the pins would stay picked, but the lock required more tension to actually open. I've now made it a habit of applying a lot more tension before I give up on it and try again. Hope I helped :)

what javagamer says is also very common with american locks, but I do not apply additional tension with the tensor, I wait until Im ready to restart then I use a small straight blade screwdriver to give the plug a little push and it often proves that the lock was picked but not indicating it by turning.
Using your tensor to check for this is wrong in two ways, one is that the tensor can become tightly bound between the plug and the cylinder wall, and this will not turn the plug at all, the second reason is that you will want to refrain from bending your tensor more than it is already.

OMG... Just read this thread. and picked the Master Lock #1 within 5 minutes. My first pin pick. The tension is so light and the movement of the pick need not be large. Used a half diamond pick and bottom of keyway lever.

Amazing. Thanks for the tips.

DING, DING, DING!!!

We have a WINNER! The thread has been dead for just barely short of 15 YEARS!

Glad to see it is being used, but necromancy is frowned upon unless something is being added to the content of the original thread.
