Hello everyone, I just started to follow my interest in lockpicking a few weeks back after watching Pyro's YouTube post on how to fabricate your own tools. I'd have had an interest in picking ever since I first saw Deviant Ollam's presentation at Defcon, but never really gotten my hands dirty before.

Today I actually opened my first padlock (after a few nights of fiddling around with various padlocks). It was a generic brand, "Tylock Security". VERY easy to work with compared to the Abus and Tri-Circle locks that I've also tried.

I myself work as a consultant programmer, I've got a keen interest in physical and computer security. I really like all the great information that can be found on this site. I live in Sweden, so it's fun to see how many people that seems to hold ASSA locks in high regard.

Looking forward to spening alot more time on this forum and with my locks. Thanks for letting me be a part of your community.

Howdy from the great state of Texas! I was always intrigued by friends who could pick locks, but never had much interest in it. Today at work we discovered a filing cabinet that had been locked and no one had the key. A few YouTube videos, a Uniball pen clip, and a paperclip later, I defeated the Chicago lock and got the cabinet open! I figure lock picking is a good skill that might come in handy at any given moment, and am here to learn more!

Hi!

New to locksports & new to this forum. Got introduced to picking by a coworker who is a veritable Criss Angel with locks. I'm fascinated by the challenge and looking to pick up my first pick set soon after messing with some homemade tools. I've read the FAQ on what to get & where so I don't want to start a "what's best to get first" firestorm! :)

I can see where this could be contagious fun!! Looking forward to the journey.

I saw the form for joining Locksport International. What do you all think about joining? Is it worth it? Do you get anything valuable out of the international membership? Do you attend & enjoy local LSI gatherings?

just got interested in picking locks. i got a jack knife and the easy locks like the old school master locks seem easy so far (though i only have one i tried). but now i want to get into doing harder locks.

Hey all. My name is Erik. I'm in the US Army which is where I got interesting picking in the first place. My old unit did training on basic picking and it really intrigued me. I found this site about 7 months ago and did my homework. I bought a cheap set of picks and rakes from cheaper than dirt. I find it relaxing to sit and watch a movie and work on whatever current lock I'm tinkering with. I started with luggage locks and found it disturbing how easily I cracked the Brinks padlock I used to use on my pistol case when I traveled. I moved to simple medium sized padlocks (my demo lock is a Fortress, poorly made in my opinion). It picks in about 5 seconds when I'm not trying to show off. I have my own picking story, though not as amazing as the guy who "saved a life". In a life and death situation, I have a universal door opener that I wear on both feet. One of my Soldiers lost the keys to two of my humvees on a day when we needed to get them cleaned and fueled. Instead of involving the higher ups and making a big problem, I picked both of the master locks and got the job done. It's one thing to practice picking for fun but it's really fulfilling to actually accomplish something. We cut alot of locks in the Army. I'm hoping to not have to do that too much anymore. At the moment I'm beating my head against the 5200 series lock. I've gotten it open once but to me, once is a fluke. If I can't open it at will, then I can't open it. I haven't had any luck at door locks and haven't tried cars (no reason for me to be opening cars) I do know I need a better set of picks, mine are a little thin and I managed to slightly bend one the other day. Anyway, just wanted to say hi. I'm off to search the forum for info on my latest lock. Anyone intimate with the 5200 series? I would love to talk about it.
