Sargent & Greenleaf Inc Padlock 8088

Hi, this is not a post on how to crack the lock but more of a post of how much I love this lock, lol. I just started to work with these locks (work is in use t hem with in my job, not work as in tring to crack them) and when I first started to work with these locks it was a to open them because I was so used to the normal MASTER type lock...but now I love this lock and want to get some of my own.

And to Chucklz: You mention that the factory set is 10, 20, 30...I thought it was 25, 25, 25 for the S&G 8088 padlock. Correct me if I am wrong.

Considering that post was made in 2004, it really does NOT matter anymore.

Also, if you took the time to read ALL the replies before quoting that one, you would not need to ask said question.

Since we're raising the dead here, I'll correct this 2-year-old post. Default combo is 25-0 (dial left four times to 25, dial right until you hit 0, open shackle).

I "cracked" the combination lock in 9 minutes with my own formula. I am insulted that one person on here thinks I am somekind of lock thief. I am an honest woman with good ethics!!!!

must have been set at "25" only to do it in 9 minutes...he he!

cant give anyinfo on codes for a pad lock.. dont know who you are or what the lock goes on.. sorry.. but it look like someone else gave you the info you needed.. i would be careful to give combo's on lock here on this site

By the way... given the specs... I don't believe this to be a Group 1 lock.

I believe this is slightly over-rated; I have achieved 25 min once out of 3 tries. Of course it depends on the combo, but I feel such ratings should reflect the minimum protection (for non-trivial combinations), not the average.

As long as we're resurrecting this thread, I'll add in some stuff:

I got two of these in the mail today, and there does appear to be some variation within the 8088 family. One lock is from the Nicholasville, KY plant, and one is from the Rochester, NY plant.

The Nicholasville lock:

• more matte finish
• visible retaining pins for the back plate at 9, 12, and 3 o'clock
• change switch is silver
• has a four letter code stamped into the shackle which can't be viewed unless the shackle is open.

The Rochester lock:

• shiny finish
• visible retaining pins for the back plate at 9 and 3 o'clock, and two descending vertically from the two corners
• change switch is blued
• no code on shackle

I agree with hzatorsk; I just spent a lot of time trying to figure out what group these locks are in, and came up shorthanded except for this thread claiming they're group 1 and some New Zealand ebayer making the same claim...but Group 1 is rated at 20 HOURS of resistance to manipulation. So these must be Group 2.

The 8077AB selling on ebay right now is Group 1R, however, given the radiological resistance. I know the 8077 replaced the 8088 (thanks for counting backwards, S&G).
