Picked my first lock yesterday!. Basically I am an electronics engineer looking for a new hobby. I am wondering about an micro-processor controlled electric pick gun with variable needle frequency and strike velocity ... or has that already been done ?.

hey everyone,
I've been looking over this site and some others the last few days nonstop and finally signed up today. I have to say this is probably the most in depth one I've found. Been picking for about a year now. definitely still amateur. I don't do any cutaways or anything but enjoy making my own tools and trying to find cool new ways/materials to do so.
see you all in the forums.

G'day all! No prizes for guessing where I'm from. My interests in lock picking came from the house i purchased 8 months ago, which for the price, i would have thought keys for the window locks would have been included, evidentally i was wrong. I made a tension wrench from a hacksaw blade and a pick from a tig welding rod, 3 hours later... i took to the locks with a 9" grinder..
Ok not really, the wafer locks werent too difficult, so i decided to have a crack at a few padlocks i had around, and an old deadbolt for which i think the keys have long since disappeared.
Brought my first set of picks online a couple of weeks ago, and have spent more money on locks to pick, than the picks themselves. I think I am addicted now.
Ive found the site to be a wealth of information, and a great help in getting me started, thanks all, and i hope to be able to contribute in whatever way i can (even if its what not to do :-P)

I've been looking at this site for quite some time and now I finally signed up!!! : ) i run & own my own vehicle recovery company,i have been interested in lock's & picking them from a young age but over the last few years i have had more & more people locking keys in cars or snapping them of in the lock.I have had the 24pcs laser & standard jigger set for years but trying to educate myself in doing it the correct way as i find it more challenging. keep up the good work running lp101

Hi, A very interesting site. Im totally new to lockpicking (apart from picking those bike combination locks when I was a schoolboy)and hope to find some good guides here to help me in my new hobby. Im a Brit living out in Tokyo so its not easy to get much info about lockpicking and its tools out here unless you speak the lingo so this place will help me Im sure.

Hi, I had a crack at lock opening when I was young and want to learn the skill. I am only here for the hobby bit! Apparently I can own the tools as long as they stay in my house :-)
Looking forward to learning and contributing :-)

New here. Just found y'all today. 48 years old and used to run a part-time mobile locksmith biz until I sold everything but my picks about 12 years ago. Never did much picking when I ran my business. Got my picks out today and decided to try out my skills on an old "Magnum" padlock I had in the basement.
4 HOURS LATER and I can't get it open!!??! Either my skills are rusty or this is one of those new fangled locks with the security pins. What makes it worse is that I've seen videos all over of kids opening these locks in a few seconds with home-made tools.
Anyway, nice to be here and hello to everyone.

Hello everyone!
My name is Abdul, Blueline is my "DJ / Music Production Label" name. I guess you can call me a wanna-be jack of all trades.
I like to produce music, I like to write, I'm a volunteer personal trainer & within the community & the list goes on. I'll be joining the military soon and hopefully end up in policing.
Basically, I want to learn as many skills as I can in life, you know, live it to the fullest and so, I want to learn how to professionally, or at least, be above average in lock-picking.
What motivated me to be here? Well, ever since I've been aspired to join a tactical unit I figured lock-picking would be a really hand skill, and today, yes today, I helped someone get all his items back, which were worth up to $5,000 and a lot of personal identification with the power of a hair-clip...I picked a very tiny "secure" lock. Basically some jerk opened his lock, and locked his locker with another lock so that the "thief" could steal the stuff at a more suitable time. All his student loan documents, passport, laptop and a lot were in there but I got really lucky and opened that sucker. PURE LUCK! NO BRAGGING INTENDED :D
Anyways, I really hope we get a long. Please forgive me for not "searching" for what I'm looking for first as there are thousands of topics I guess...and I rather just have my own topic to follow.
Thanks again for the warm welcome, help, advice, training, and everything else this forums & the members provide.

Hi :)
I'm a police officer who started getting interested in this hobby as a function of my job and as part of some research on a vendor's product that he was trying to peddle to my department.
I've had picks for two days and haven't tried a lot (ten hour work shifts for the loss!) but I've both individually set and scrubbed/raked a Kwikset doorlock as my only progress. I used the HPC 4 piece combo set (8 total picks).
I'm currently drilling out lock... ports? in a 2x4 piece of lumber to use as a practice board mounted in a vice in my shop.
This place looks like a fountain of knowledge and I'm looking forward to diving in.
