Wanting info on making tension wrenches.

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Ok, I have made some from wiper blades and they are great. However I wanted some that ar wider, what size or blade type do I need to find that have this wider metal insert for larger locks. The ones I have as great for smaller locks. Any help would be great

Trashcan outside Auto Zone is your best friend. Anyone with an SUV or pick up truck throwing their wipers away will provide you with nice wide inserts for those locks where a thin one "cams out" while applying turning pressure.

Hope this helps!

Or a junk yard.

I most commonly find myself wishing they were thicker rather than wider to fit keyways. I've noticed that some are bendier than others and can be folded double (180 degrees) then hammered flat if you need them thicker for wide keyways.

The ANCO blades have some of the widest inserts I've found (3-4mm). If buying them though, be sure to check first, as ANCO uses several different widths depending on what type of blade your getting. I'll also go to the local junkyard, but I've found the older/weathered inserts will crack/break if bent at sharp angles. They work fine though, as many people will leave some space in between their pliers, which will give you a rounded, gradual bend. Personally, I like a tight, sharp 90 in mine, and the new inserts hold up better for this.

Good idea- think I'll try that. Funny how sometimes the simplest solution is overlooked.
