That's not quite how they work (for the majority of those combination-wheel "luggage" locks, anyhow). With these locks, the "knife" is helping you decode the combination, rather than tripping some sort of release mechanism (and there's not typically a keyway on those locks?).
If you search around, I'm sure there must be a good thread with a tutorial of how to decode those locks; it's not that hard, and doesn't require a special tool (you can make a tool easily from pretty much any thin, rigid material).
