Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

It says in the title - it is a Fichet 787. They have now been replaced by the newer Fichet F3D (there is a thread somewhere). A write up of the 787 is in my book (click on the signature).

cheers

What do you guys think about the Fichet 787?
Is it a high security lock that no one can pick?
Thanks.

Some information : 3 versions of this lock (all versions have the sidebar blocking system)

- 787 Original, the first lock produce by Fichet in july 1987 (patented in 16/09/1983) have 10 levers.

- 787 S version, the second lock have 8 levers and the same "flap" design...

- 787 Z version, 8 levers and fichet change "flap" section because the patent expired. (patented in 20/02/2001)

have fun...

I take it re-keying requires no additional parts?

that's just plain genious. I can't get over how secure that thing is. I don't get why lock manufacturers don't look at this and bow their heads in self disgust. I think some master/kaba/abloy engineer is probably out there somewhere going DUH! Decouple the bolt from the lock when it's not in use. Why didn't I think of that

It's a neat design, but let's not get carried away. This lock can be decoded and picked open in less than 3 minutes by someone with "minimal" training.
