Please help me read this king and queen diagram...

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Please help me read this king and queen diagram...

Hey everyone,

I can't find this anywhere else, and can't figure it out on my own. How is this diagram supposed to be read, and from whence did it come?

Image

Specifically, what are the numbers above and below each line, and what is the total height of each pick? On the first question, I see that these are bit heights, but can't see what they mean, or how to understand them. On the second question, I assume this depends on the specification of the lock a given pick is designed for, but I think I'd need to understand the first question to figure this out.

If someone has a non-patented/copywrited king and queen pair, and wouldn't mind doing a scan at a given DPI, I'd love to see an image. I'd really love to also have a two-axis ruler in the scan.

Happy picking,

D

I always thought the numbers described different depths at which the pick would strike 5 pin locks in different configurations.

What I haven't figured out is if the diagram is supposed to lead you to believe that the Queen can be used both ways, right side up and "upside down", and that the King is designed for one way only??????

The image is from the book "Lock Pick Design Manual" which was published by Paladin Press. It's a bit hard to get hold of.

A user on here called Romstar scanned this page:

but that doesn't explain the numbers.
