Ok, so i had to give it a go.... Heres what i found.
1. Use an ACE Craft knife, #2024784... Same dimensions as an Xacto but has 4 jaws so centers the wire
2. Try and find someone who has already built one for the .020 wire. Its not expensive but you need to order 5 packs of 5 pieces in 3ft lengths from ACE... I still have 74' 6" of piano wire left over

PM me if you want me to mail a few 6" pieces to you.
3. The vertical part of the wire needs to be short enough to pass under a low cut and still be able to reach the groove.. this was not possible with the lock i had.
4. The wire is tool flexible so reinforce the horizontal section with a couple more lengths and super glue it.
5. Practice is probably needed, its really tricky to keep tension with one hand and use the tool in the other, i got frustrated with it after 15 mins and gave up on it.
6. If you have access to a lathe, use it... makes the scale really easy and precise
Anyways heres the attempt... I had 6 pins on my mind and somehow translated that to 6 equal spacings of .17" so ended up with 7 lines on the scale.... Ill just pretend it was on purpose for when Medeco realease their 7 pin cylinder
