I typically keep an eye out for locks that have what look like difficult bitting. I figure if I practice on those, then I'll get better overall.
The other day however I snagged a lock with some rather extreme bitting and its giving me fits. I've picked many of the fortress locks before, though I'll freely admit its been a while. and this one feels... strange. The difficulty I keep running into is the first pin binds and sets quickly and easily, (I almost wonder if there's a spool pin somewhere in the back 3 tumblers) but getting a hook, halfdiamond, or anything else past the second without oversetting it is a bear. And on the rare occasion I can manage it I feel stupid, because I can barely, no, being honest I can't feel the back pins at all. I was thinking about trying to set the back two, over set the second, and set the first, then go in with a sharp extraction tool and try to 'drag' the overset pin back down... Any other ideas?
I'm enjoying the challenge, but golly gee, This ones tougher than I'd have thought from a fortress.
Heres a pic, I'm not worried about showing the key as this is simply for practice.
