Weiser Schlage Deadbolt.

I had an entry and rekey job and when I got the deadbolt off this is what I found. It is a schlage cylynder inside of a weiser housing. how redneck is this sollution.

EDIT: The reason I put this here is because its a brilliant idea Using the cam to hold it in and putting a screw in the remaining gap as a set screw. This lock was legitimately solid.

At least the Schlage is better made than the Weisers. One saying I heard a lot while growing up states "If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid".

Sometimes, when your in the field, options are limited.
Getting the job done is paramount.
Coming back with a proper lock would have been preferable.
Was the customer agreeable to purchasing more conventional hardware?
Or did you leave it that way?

Actually the customer wasnt interested in getting anything new. He just wanted it rekeyed because he had someone quit. he really didnt even want to do that. my guess is at one time he wanted them all keyed alike and the last locksmith probably had a cylinder but no deadbolt and did the best he could.

I agree fully. It is by far better. often cheaper too. but like I said this conversion was rugged.

I dont know about your particular lock but Weiser did make composit, replacement plugs that would accept Schlage keys. The screws are also possible because someone long ago lost the cylinder retaining clip and rigged it the best they could.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool. Wisdom is not just in determining how to do something, but also includes determining whether it should be done at all.

Yeah but if your familiar with that you would remember that those plugs are flared at the top and would fit that gap perfetly. he wouldnt have needed that set screw.
