When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Okay, so I've browsed Rytan's site and product list, but am unable to find any online distributors that will sell an affordable set containing ONLY Rytan picks.
Also, try as I may, I cannot seem to find the HPC site (they do have one, don't they?) and most retailers have only low quality (small) images of HPC tools for the handful of sets that I've been able to find. I'd like to find a site that both sells and clearly displays/describes these tools -- Rytan's and HPC's, that is.
Any suggestions? Much obliged!

Both Rytan and HPC appear to have sales policies limiting the sale of their locksmithing equipment to bonafied locksmiths and "security professionals." You can get a good view of HPC products at their website: www.hpcworld.com . As for actually purchasing HPC products, I've found that whatever sites that carry them without requiring identification as a locksmith have only older HPC sets. This seems to explain to me why SouthOrd appears to be the leading seller of lockpicks. They'll sell picks to anybody, despite having inferior products and far less selection. This means they get the majority of the market, which consists of hobbyists and do-it-yourselfers. Kinda pisses me off... if you can find a place for me to buy the Dental Style HPC picks, I'd be a happy camper.

Thanks for the URL!
What makes you say that SouthOrd's are inferior products? You're right about their market position, just about every online vendor seems to offer almost exclusively SO ware.

Its less than their products are inferior in their own right and more that they have a much more limited selection. They offer essentially two styles of handles, and only about 13 different picks, all of which are basic. For instance, South Ord offers a snake rake pick, HPC has a snake rake, a three quarter snake, a half snake, and what I'd like to call an "elevated" snake rake (its a full snake rake angled upwards). They also have a double half round pick and the list goes on. They also offer different styles of picks like their dental set, color coded set, wallet sets, belt sets, etc etc. Its more inferior selection than inferior design.

Bitterman, I see your point. But then, there is the question of how to obtain such tools. As I am no professional locksmith, it seems almost impossible for me to buy the HPC (or Rytan) tools - especially separately, i.e. not in a set. SouthOrd tools ARE available to anyone and their site does offer selections of single picks. If you know any way that I could acquire HPC or Rytan tools this way, I'd appreciate the info.

LockPicks.com wrote:Hello All, I want to thank you for your comments. I will be calling a meeting tomorrow with my staff, and will have each one of your comments and problems investigated to see if there are any holes in our processes. Our #1 goal is customer satisfaction and it looks like we may be missing the mark with some of you. We will make it right. I believe I know what the problem might be with our international customers who are experiencing delays, etc... We receive a large number of frudulant credit card transactions from people all over the world everyday. Unfortunately Visa/MasterCard does not have a good system in place to verify these transactions. When it turns out to be fraud, months afterthe sale the money is removed from our bank account and returned to the actual card holder's account. American Express on the other hand allows us to verify that we are sending the package to the card holder's address which is great for everyone. With Visa/MasterCard we are stuck to try and verify the address on our own. This usually involves making an international call to the bank that issued the card. Sometimes this works and sometimes it does not. A new law in Australia now prohibits credit card issuers from giving out any information about their card holders which means they can not verify the address information... We need to find another solution and are working on it. Until then we will continue to service our Australian customer as we have been doing for 6 years now. By the way, if anyone wants to become our Australian Dealer, please let me know!! You probably will not find better wholesale prices then what we offer. Anyway, I encourage our customers to email direct at CEO@LockPicks.com if they ever have a problem with getting service or if you receive bad service. I take quick action on these situations. This is the reason we have been a success for longer then almost any other locksmith tool site. Thank you again for your comments and your Business! And, please feel free to contact me or my staff at any time. Barrett Brockhage President & CEO http://LockPicks.com

Why lockpicks.com is not showing for sale HPC items in their web page if they are distributors?

One part of me just wants to say, "A pick is a pick." I want to BE that way so I can use ANYTHING I can get my hands on in case of an emergency. I have been that way for years.
The feel of turning tools is even more difficult. To put it bluntly, the best turning tools (tension wrenches) I have used are the HPC Heavy/Rigid wrenches, bar none. There is not one SouthOrd wrench that can compare with one of these HPC wrenches and I have SouthOrd tools as well.
I have an array of tools from HPC, ESP, Rytan, SouthOrd...older Majestic. HPC, ESP and Rytan can't be beat in my opinion. A lot of it is personal feel, however.

I have not had a chance to obtain any as of yet. I E-mailed one place about them with basically no response. I know what they are, what they look like and how they are supposed to work. Just don't have any. If I do get some, I don't think I would only use them, however. I would always use the more traditional tools as well because I don't want to get spoiled by something I cannot really improvise in an emergency.
