The only OA dealer in the US that knows anything about this is in Seattle. I spoke with [MOD EDIT: removed personal information]. Unfortunately, the cost of a blank is $80 and shipping is $50. So far, I have chosen not to pay the price.
I have on numerous occasions contacted locksmiths and asked if they could create a key blank from scratch. Each one assures me that they can find a key blank if I just send them a picture of the key or let them take a picture of the key. So far, nobody has come through with a blank. When I repeat the question about creating a blank that matches contours of my key, they generally avoid the question.
I undertand that there are machines out there that will create a blank from scratch. How do I locate a locksmith that has one? I live in North Carolina. Ideally, the locksmith would be within driving distance, because I certainly do not wish to risk sending my one remaining key through the postal service.
What would help us more is not a side view of the keys but a head on view in good focus next to a reference object such as a Schlage or Kwikset home key or Master padlock key or ever a ruler.
ILCO and Silca both offer catalogs where you can look at the keyway shape / profile / section and then figure out if it is a common blank that is just being minted my OA and sold for $80 because they know they can charge that much. So if you can put your key in a vise with a Schlage key or Kwikset key below it for scale we can probably figure this out.
As a safety and security precaution, DO NOT show us your house key key cuts! only the profile view as if you were inserting your key into the camera lens.
Thanks!
