Need Spring Source

Postby jeffpoit » 11 Dec 2013 10:47

I was rekeying a Kwikset Clone deadbolt and lost the rear pin spring. Nightmare because the tumbler springs are larger. I had to go buy a Brinks deadbolt from Walmart to get the spring. Does anyone know where I can get these springs from?

Try going to a locksmith shop and ask to buy a couple of springs. It is always good to have a spare.

Another option is Home Depot, if they have one in your area. Go to the door lock section. They usually have a person there who is tasked with rekeying locks that you purchase. There should be some springs in their rekey kit.

NOTE: Don't tell them (at either place) that you pick locks. Just say that you took apart your lock to see how it works, and that a couple springs launched themselves, and you can't find them. If you make it sound funny, so much the better. They will probably laugh and hand you a couple.

short ones

That shop is reputable and I have purchased from them before.

Thanks. Do you think Home Depot has the small ones? I have plenty of driver springs.

Do you mean the spring for the tailpiece cap?

I thought only Schlage secures their caps like that.. and yes, reading comprehension fail for me, I didn't realize the OP wanted the cap pin spring.

Here's another Kwikset thread showing the back of an old deadbolt cylinder with a lazy tailpiece cap viewtopic.php?t=3214

Here's what you need: 18 cents
http://www.amazon.com/Schlage-Part-Cap- ... B004C47QYS

or from here
http://www.mrlock.com/43381.html

or go to a Restore in your area and buy a lock that you can salvage the spring from.

ummm, the two suppliers I linked you to.. one on amazon and then mr lock.

Should be the same size that goes in Schlage locks since the mechanism is a copy of Schlage's design.

OP, where are you located? I would be happy to send you a couple springs from my Schlage kit if they will work. Send me a PM.
