New to me (old) ILCO key duplicator, new cutting wheels?

Postby snakebyte » 28 Jan 2014 11:05

I recently picked up this old ILCO duplex key cutter, seems to be in good working order, and has worked well for the keys I have tried (some regular schlage house keys, and some best door lock keys) from my research, it seems to be pre 1974, but that's about all I've found.

I paid $50 for it, along with 500 or so key blanks, so I'm assuming I did good...
My question is, are the cutters interchangeable with current model ones? I appreciate your time, here are a couple pics.

Thanks for the link...the thing still looks like the wheels are good. Don't really know how to check it, but they still seem to cut good.
I like to have spare parts, just in case.
Any idea what these would normally go for? I grabbed it without even looking it up because it was so cheap, but I had a hard time finding any in that model/style even for sale.

Yes, really. I'm not trying to sell it here, a friend of mine said they go for a lot, and that I might be able to get that for it.
I was looking to people that know this stuff for clarification, or a better idea what it might actually go for. I had been planning on doing the foley belsaw course, and since they won't drop the course price and keep the key cutter they supply, I figured why not?

I changed it to unavailable, I'm not trying to step on any toes, or give the wrong idea.
I just don't need two cutters if i'm doing the course...I can only have so much wrapped up in a hobby.

The duplex isn't a popular model, but is certainly worth at least $200 without the blanks.

As for replacement cutters just measure the hole diameter and the outer diameter and match this.

The thin cutter is for steel keys, like safe deposit boxes and old lever tumbler locks use
the cutter tracer has a particular profile, it is best if you buy the cutter that matches the tracer
as well as possible, but you can likely get more cutters. Nice score, I love those older key machines
Other parts are prolly gonna be harder to find, like a new cutter shaft, the bushings can be found at
ENCO (1-800-use-enco) or they may even forward you to MSC, both of these places sell machine shop
tooling and materials.
Far as the "Duplex" not being a popular model, I have 2 duplex machines in my shop, it just depends
on whether you cut steel keys or not. Many times you can cut barrel & bit keys with the steel cutter
blade as well, I know I use my duplex machines for making keys to old padlocks all the time.

I wanted to say, usually if you unscrew the nut and look on the cutter there will be a number there on the side
