If you look into the hole where the toe of the shackle goes, there is an allen-head screw. You may need to clean out the garbage buildup before you can get to the screw.

I cleaned it out well, Here is a picture. That's what I originally thought most all are like that.

Maybe you need the right tool...

Don't have one of those American 747 locks handy at this time, but think there is an allen screw on the side of the lock that allows you to remove the shackle if the lock is open. Then you slide that cover off to the side, and the cam and lock cylinder come out the top.

Thanks for helping out Gordon!

Okay I cleaned out all the crap from the Allen screw from the back of the lock. It really didn't look like one. I removed it, and the shackle still doesn't seem to want to budge. I'm not sure if there is a pin behind the Allen screw that is suppose to fall out releasing the shackle. I will keep trying...

Hello Sublimis, sorry I'm late. There are two things that prevent the plate from sliding out: the allen screw and the shackle itself. It slides out on the side.
The allen screw requires a 3.5 mm allen wrench since my 3 mm rotates freely and my 4 mm doesn't enter and unfortunately I only have that set handy now. The screw is located in the hole left empty by the opened shorter side of the shackle, and is a little off center.
The long side of the shackle has a thin end that slides in a hole in the bottom plate when closed and comes up every time you open it.

Just a reminder for you: I got this padlock fully disassembled and it was a pita to reassemble it. If you're having a hard time trying to disassemble it I suggest you to think twice before you reach the point of no return...

Cheers :)

Cool, Thanks for the reply. I took the allen screw out and the shackle still stays in place... Is there a pin that is behind the allen screw? This lock is old and all rusted up... at this point I want it apart! lol Here are the pictures.

We may have slightly different locks: mine doesn't have a screw on the side but a pin

Anyway, this is the bottom plate removed. You can see on the left the threaded hole where the allen screw normally is, and on the right the pin that automatically goes up when you open the shackle and down when you close it

Image

and this is the hole where mine has the allen screw I had to loose in order to remove the bottom plate

Yep Totally different! CRAP! lol
There is no screw on the inside of the shackle. This thing has to come apart, when the lock is unlocked the plate on the bottom isn't under tension anymore and is not stuck (doesn't move much but it does move)
Here is the image of inside the shackle...

Heck. I'll make a guess then. Your lock has just the pin under the shackle, the one on the right on my last post. That automatic pin doesn't get up when the shackle is open since it's all rusted. Try to soak it in wd40 and then open the shackle and hit the top of the lock body on the workbench to free that pin. You may also try to move that bottom plate left and right...

Good luck :)

Okay This is How it's Done!

1.) Cuss out the padlock
2.) Flip off the padlock
3.) Remove the Allen screw from the back of the lock (3/32")
4.) Make sure the padlock is locked pore Marvel Mystery Oil in the hole where the Allen screw was
5.) Grab a 2lb rubber mallet (the bigger the better)
6.) Beat the living crap out of the padlock to remove the shackle retaining pin
7.) Remove the shackle and spring
8.) Remove the shackle heal ball bearing.
9.) Grab a magnet (pen or needle type)
10.) Insert the magnet in the heal shackle hole.
11.) Pull out the bottom plate keeper pin
12.) Slide out the bottom access plate
13.) Remove the lock assembly core
14.) Remove the actuator
15.) Remove the toe ball barring
16.) Flip the lock off again and tell it "What's up now Mother F$#Ker!"

Note: The bottom access plate and lock core are in the reverse order in the picture...

Great job mate! So my guess about it being rusted and in need of some slaps wasn't that wild!
