Info and ID of Medeco Padlock?

Postby cheerIO » 29 Jun 2014 15:19

Hello All,

A friend of mine gave me his old grill for scrap metal. His father secured it years ago with a huge steel cable and this padlock and they lost the key. They cut the cable and brought me the grill. Funny thing was the ring in the pics was secured to the grill, one end of the cable slipped over the ring and the other end secured in the lock fastened to the ring. They were saying what a pain in ass it was for two people to hold and cut the cable with a saws-all, as I reached under the grill, found the nut on the back of the ring, and unscrewed it with my fingers dropping it from the grill. Both of them were not too happy about that. :D

But I got a free lock out of it!!! I was wondering if anyone had any info. I saw one picture on the net calling it "a classic". Is that the series? I'm still stuck on American Locks, So I doubt I will be able to pick this any time soon. But if I was able to pick it one day, is the core removable? Could I make a key for it if I was able to open it? And does that sticker have anything to do with the lock? It says: MAO527315.

Any help appreciated.

What you have there is a an extremely rare and very valuable... I really have no idea.. :D :D

I believe It is a Medeco Classic Series, Means the pins don't have to be rotated and and I don't believe it has a side bar.... Possibly 6 pins

by doing a quick search online I found several pix of them but no real info..
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

Well, I got all excited about your post and have been trying to pick it for the last half hour. :D

I think it has 5 pins. There are 5 double clicks when I drag the half diamond out of it upside down.

It feels like no other lock I have. Really smooth tension and from resting to putting tension on the plug it makes a little less than a 16th of a rotation. Pretty big movement. The 5th pin feels like a binder. but no evident set. I don't even have a click when I release tension to reset after about 50 tries, even trying to over-lift it.

I do think there may be more to it. But I know very little about Medecos and couldn't find any real info on the net either.

That has the driverless medeco core (cam lock style). they are extra hard to pick compared to a regular medeco mortise. there are several threads about picking medeco cam locks. search for those, might help. that padlock can also be disassembled and rekeyed or the core replaced with a new one.
