I own a Klom pickgun and I think its very fun to use, some locks like Kwiksets it opens in seconds. But I think starting off with a good set of manual picks (good quality ones too like Southord, still own them after years of use) help me not break all the picks from my Klom. Its all about using the right amount of pressure.

I make my own picks. I have a bout 30 different picks, but most are not even used. They range from the regular picks and slimline. I usually only use two or three for picking locks. I am taking a locksmith course and am just about finished with it, but I will never really be a Locksmith. I do some locksmith work for a few friends. I do pick some locks for them when they loose their keys. I own three different Pick Guns, but never use them. I like the SPP' picking of locks. It gives me a felling of accomplishment.

My personal favorite sets are Peterson's Phoenix GSP pick sets, even if I do almost all of my pin-tumbler picking with just their flat-tipped medium hook I like to have a bit of variety for locks which need something a bit different. I have a 'formal dress' set consisting of HPC's blackened steel picks (medium diamond, snake rake, flat medium hook) and some Peterson tension tools, my normal set which is mostly Peterson tools with a couple of Southern Specialties rakes and unbranded bogatas, and then my oddities set which is a mix of Peterson and Southern Specialties which has my least used picks and most of my bypass tools.

I really could do just about all of my pin-tumbler picking using just the three HPC tools (they have held up well over many years of use) but I prefer my Peterson tools most of the time.

In my latest order I included a government steel Ken's pick set from Peterson. I have heard pretty good reviews of them from several people and wanted to try them out for myself. I just hope my Southords don't get jealous sitting next to them in the toolbox :)
