Yeah, I remember my first disk lock. It was the same look, but a Brinks instead of ACE.
It seemed like I would never get it open, but now, I can pick it almost by accident, so I gave it to my fiance to practice with. It's a lock that will give you weird feedback because of how it's made, and how you have to hold it.
Normally, they will just have one measly security pin in there. Let me link you to a fantastic video on how to detect and defeat spool pins, since this guy explains it with fancy visual aid and everything. Also check out his other videos, as he is a great teacher.

Also, you never need any more tension than it takes to turn the key. Just keep your fingers off of the shackle if you can, so it will open once it's picked.
