It's a Simplex 1000 Series Knob

The combination can be 1 to 5 keys and can be a combination of several keys pressed at the same time.

Why not just use your key to get in?

+1 for that, Bosnianbill. It's amazing how many people leave themselves/their belongings vulnerable with factory or oversimplified combinations. To be honest, a lot of applications in the world of consumer security amaze me. If you're going to invest in something more than a master lock, at least do your part to make sure it's doing its best job for you. I recently had a girl that had locked her keys in her dorm room, and when I went to help, I found a brand new Medeco lock sitting in a door that could be quickly shimmed open. Who comes up with this stuff? Haha.

If you have to open one, doesn't hurt to try that. Even so, they only have a little over 1000 possible combinations.

If you try to change the comb and pooch it, you lose the comb entirely and have to take it all apart to reset.

OP hasn't even been here since the day of the original post. Some folks have no interest in being a member, they just see forums like they see Yahoo! Answers. I guess we should take it as a compliment to the ridiculous wealth of knowledge we have here in the form of existing posts, and the members who help answer questions.

I had one where I was able to figure out the combo by looking at the cam pack under the comb while fiddling with combinations, it's not that hard to figure out.

You push the buttons that are furthest away from the gate in order and you have the combination. The ones already under the gate are not in the combination. If two buttons are the same distance from the gate they are pushed together.
