If the lock is not mounted then it is worth mounting the lock in a piece of timber which can then be held in a vice. You can hold the lock directly in the vice but you will have to be careful not to clamp the vice too tightly as you may put pressure on the workings of the lock.
You may want to try if you have mounted the lock in some timber, insert the tension wrench into the lock and place an elastic band on the end of the wrench, apply a small amount of pressure on the wrench with the band. Using a notice board pin insert it through the other end of the band and pin it to the timber. This will keep a constant pressure on the tension wrench allowing both hands free to pick the lock.
