Hi everyone. Just a humble property owner looking for some help. This is the only copy of this key we have and I'm trying to get a copy made. Our local locksmith was stumped as to the kind of blank to use and the hardware store was not helpful either. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. It's got a neutered bow and no markings (as far as I can tell). Thanks for any help!

Can you snap a pic of the Lock it's for? at least for myself its easier to have a pic of the Keyway (most blank catalog's have a silhouette of the key way) And welcome to the forum

It is a private restricted keyway that a former locksmith sold. You might find it cheaper to replace the lock it fits, than find the guy who installed it

Daww. I wondered if that was the case. Replacement it is then. Thanks for your help!

That locksmith can likely replace the keyway in your lever handle for under $35, if you take the lock off & bring it to him

Just replace the cylinder in the lever. They are dirt cheap.

I swear I recall seeing a key way that looked similar to that when I was doing some reading over the Holidays. I have been looking for the last day with no luck, I will keep at it though If that was a private key way restricted to one locksmith company's use who would have made the hardware? I am guessing key blanks were not made in house. (and if they were I would love to work for that company)

I think HL Flake or McDonald Dash sell the keys & the lock cylinders but there is a "buy-in" requirement. I just don't like locksmiths who play this type game on their clients. I have seen this key several times already as clients have come in to get it copied and wind-up feeling like someone screwed them over when I explain that it's a restricted key that I can't buy, used to keep them from getting a copy.

I agree it sucks, but I was thinking it would not be bad to give people the option to buy a restricted key way but then I would have at least a phone number stamped on it so in the future people could get keys cut for it

Never happen, thing is when you are selling a restricted key system you hafta make sure only the "right people" even know where to buy another key... Actually I saw this same key blank on sale on e-bay a few days ago, but they wanted too much money for it

Not sure why you think locksmiths who offer a restricted keyway are screwing their customer or playing a game. In my experience a customer will say I am tired of my tenants getting copies to give to all and sundry, what is the most cost effective solution to my problem? Then then you offer a restricted keyway and the customer is happy and the key duplication stops. What am I missing?
