Hey guys!
Thanks to all of you you for your help. It wasn’t easy to choose from so many great suggestions.
I decided to try two magnetic drawer baby-locks, because they are simple, uncomlicated, cheap and easy to install.
For my skillset that seemed simplest, most foolproof way. No need for electricity so no worries about batteries or possibly dangerous cabling near children. Plus I’m really uneducated with electronics so many things which are simple as a 1,2,3 to you guys are a challenge to me. Obviously dependent on how well you know your way around in that field there is surely a lot cooler solutions to similar projects. And with electronics you could definitely make it more complicated, and extend it with possibly two way identification and so on. I briefly toyed with the idea of two way identification (magnet plus remote controller) and even a fail safe secondary opening mechanism. Talking to the parents and eventually realising I’m way too lazy for that I thought that is all way too much.
I admit it’s not fancy, and there were a lot of really cool ideas tempting me. But I like the elegance of this super simple solution and that it’s hassle free to install and hopefully maintenance free.
Since there will be no valuables stored, the lack of security is not an issue. And for a child a magnetic lock is already super cool

So again, thank you for your enthusiastic help and support I really appreciate it and it helped me a lot!
Will see how this version holds up and if it fails I’ll keep you updated with my experience.
Sorry for the belated reply, I’m very busy since a long time now :/
I'm gonna but the lock this week sometime.
As for electronic safe locks: there are still issues with that. I wouldn't use an electric safe lock, only if the audit fucntion and time lock would be a priority (comapnies) and if the ease of use was so important (older people for one).
Many malfucntion due to low battery voltage, they sometimes have issues before they signal low battery. At least that's my experience with electric lagards for example. (But others are similar in quality as well IMO)
And they just don't last as long and have a lot more ways to break than good old keyed or combination mechanical locks. I don't think electronic locks can be expected to last 10 yrs and mechanical ones function well after many many years with some care.
That said it's true that insitutional clients overwhelmingly prefer electric ones, for their supposed ease of use and adittional fucntions (timelock, audit, programmability, multiple users, two way ID in one lock).
Lastly, in my expereince, people foolishly put electric lock on their fire resistant safe and happily forget to consider that a mechanical lock is much more resistant to heat than a palstic electric lock...
And please don't forget most can have their batteries changed from the outside of can be powered from the outside independently.
But let's not derail the thread.
My questions are answered, thank you for your help
