Thanks for the suggestion. I did try that but I got it all figured out today. In my stupidity I realized that the "lever thing" I mentioned earlier is actually just a protrusion that pushes the washer in the key towards the other side of the cylinder which depresses the actual lever. So I thought the protrusion was the actual lever but in reality the lever was on the other side of the keyway. The actual lever is flush with the keyway on the left side.
So tonight I picked to a false set, then set the lever (on left side of keyway) after that it was just nudging a couple pins then open.
