Chubb 3-wheel Combination Lock Change Key

Postby Dextro » 7 Aug 2017 0:40

Hi,

I have a Chubb safe which has a Chubb 7L48 3-wheel combination lock. The safe is unlocked and I have the combination for it. I am trying to find a change key for it.
Anyone know where I could get one?

Here are pictures of the lock:

The writing says
‘Chubb 7L48’
‘VdS Class 1’

With cover removed:

Cheers.

Looks like a Sargent Greenleaf 6730 clone made by or for Chubb.

A S&G 3 wheel change key Model U8 should work, ebay has them for sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/S-G-3-WHEEL-COM ... 1954718955

better price: http://www.ebay.com/itm/S-G-Safe-Lock-C ... 2462423483

Interesting Question considering Squelchtone showed you were to buy one .. Are you going to make a change key?
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

No, I don’t really want to make one if I can buy one that fits. Unfortunately I do not live in the US so the cost of shipping is double the price of the change key. Therefore I wanted the measurements so I can be sure that it fits.

The other Chubb change keys I‘ve found look similar too, but I don’t know if they will fit either.

This one looks longer so possibly 4-wheel?

on the 1010 site, when you click it, related items pop up. The sargent & Greenleaf 3 wheel one looks like the one for the job.

the shape of that change key hole is very very very specific, all of us are intimately familiar with it so, there's no need to measure it, no other key will fit that hole. the 3 or 4 wheel depends on if you have 3 or 4 wheels, and it seems you have the 3 wheel version, so you dont need the extra deep 4 wheel key.

Looking at your wheel pack, it matters that the locking hub is squarely aligned (which it is not) to ensure the combo doesnt drift, or worse become an unlocked wheel pack.
A worn key, or improvised key may not fully return the hub to the correct position.

When you get the key you want, make sure it fully relocks the square hub to the correct position.

Yes I'll get the S&G key.

Ok thank you very much, I'll get the S&G 3 wheel change key Model U8 from http://mbausa.com plus a couple of S&G spline keys.

Yes, thank you for mentioning that, I'll make sure it is properly aligned. I noticed it when I took the cover off. When I removed the drive cam the one set of locking teeth on the wheel pack weren't fully engaged. Hopefully when I get the change key and change the combination, it will properly lock the wheel pack.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
