Is Raimundo still hand making Bogota picks?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Weird question, but is there a place where I could find out more about that mathematical analysis?

Christina Palmer from TOOOL has done a number of talks on the theory of wave in lock pick design.

I did a several hours of google searching and found mention of a number of talks she gave on the topic but there doesn't seem to be any papers or videos posted from these talks.

She has done a excellent write up on lockpick metallurgy and using wave rakes but nothing on wave theory and the making wave rakes (bogatas) that she discusses in her talks at a Toool meeting and a Lockcon in Australia.

Thanks for the info. I had thought I was buying a set of Serepick's Bogotas from Massdrop as they stated the picks were a "collaboration" between Hard Case Survival and Serepick. However, others have stated that these are made by Hard Case Survival. They are titanium and seem to be a pretty nice set. They have shorter handles so they are easy to carry in a wallet, etc. but I am not sure if they are actually the same as Serepick's or not.

If you are looking for a similar pick but don't care about "authenticity" then I think that the best thing going is the new set developed by TOOOL. TOOOL calls them the "wicked waves". Peterson also makes them and calls them the "Wonder waves". They are based on the original design that Raimundo invented but have been fine-tuned with modern mathematical analysis.

Thanks for the reply. I actually wanted the Raimundo picks more as a collector's item than anything else but for use I will check out a set of the TOOOL Wicked Waves. I actually almost bought their Tremendous Twelve set as my first lock picking set as I had heard this was a good set for beginners.

Very important note: to a lot of us in the locksport world, triple hump picks with a traditional popsickle handle are not "Bogotas" the gun handle design is part of what make real Raimundo or inspired Bogota rakes so powerful when it comes to opening locks quickly. I hold my.Bogotas like someone holding dowsing rods or like a drummer holding drum sticks over a snare drum, then I do the too much coffee jiggle and locks fall open before me. The clones that use the Bogota humps but a regular style handle just dont seem to work as well.

Consider this when purchasing your "Bogotas"

Thank you Sir, I did wonder how the Wicked Waves would compare to the Raimundo style Bogota. I don't have Ray's but I do have a couple of Bogotas from Madbobs which are a "copy" of Raimundos. They are very inexpensive and I did some additional finishing with sandpaper. As you stated they have a totally different feel then than a Bogota with traditional handles which are now included in just about every pick set it seems.

That's a great point. For me it depends on how the lock can be held. If I am picking the lock in my hand or if I have it in a vise I like to hold the lock at about a 45 degree angle. In this setup I prefer the standard straight handle that most picks have. But if the lock is mounted in a door where it is a 90 degree angle as opposed to a 45 then I prefer Raimundo's original design. Since I pick locks as a hobby I almost never encounter one mounted on a door, and I'm nearly always able to hold the lock at my preferred 45 degree angle. For that reason all of my rakes (but one!) have the "popsicle stick" handle that I prefer. But if was concerned about opening locks mounted on a door I'd be packing Raimundo's handle instead.
