Hope someone here can help me?
Just joined up here, introduction in new member section.
I bought a safe about two years ago from the administrators of a local closed down business. Its a Chubb Australia safe. Whether its made in Australia ?.....I don't know?
I'll try and upload a photo for it when I can get my techno savvy son to do it...I've got no idea how to ?
In the meantime I'll try and describe it.
Its a combination only safe, no key built into it.
It measures 37.5 inches tall, 27.5 inches wide and 28.5 inches deep externally . Door is 21.5 inches wide x 31.5 inches high.
Handle on left about 2.25 inch in from left door edge and approx midway down.
Dial is on right side of door 8.5 inches down from top of door edge and 9.5 inches in from right door edge.
Written on the dial center is CHUBB and an arrow above pointing to the right. It is gradiented from 0 to 100.
If I place the number 50 on the dial at the mark ( mark is at 12 oclock position like they all seem to be ) then the 0 is at the 7 oclock position and the 100 is at the 5 oclock position. There is a gap between the 0 and 100 from 5 oclock position ( 100 ) to the 7 oclock position ( 0) .
There is a changing mark at the 9.15 oclock position.
There is a tri spoke handle directly below the dial centre and the distance from the dial centre to the tri spoke centre is 7.5 inches.
It has a CHUBB Australia oval shaped stainless steel badge approx 7 inch wide by approx 4 inch high attached to the door just above the dial.
There seems to be a decorative missing ring from around the tri spoke handle which to me would only have been a decoritive measure.
Stamped into the door underneath where this ring would attach to the door is stamped the numbers 2870 but because the last two numbers are only half stamped this could be 2830 , or 2878, or 2838 or 2879 or 2839?
At the top of the safe body, above the door, facing front I can just make out the letters ( under the paint ) AP4.
None of the screws holding anything on to the door are in phillips head screws, they are all single slot screws.
If I was to guess the era of the safe , I would say 1960's/1970's ? going by its look, the design and type of lettering on the badge and the design of handle and tri spoke opening handle.
If its any help, its seems to be only ever painted in one color ever, that being Battleship Grey.
I can't really find any other identifying things.
I'll go into the story later on how I extricated the safe out of the 120 year old vault it was in and tearing my Supraspinatus tendon off my shoulder bone whilst doing so a little later on

Anyway,
I was given the combination to the safe. I didn't personally try it then and there as it was the very last day I had to get it out before the administrator closed the store for good. As it was, I only got it out of the building an hour before final lock up, so never got a chance to try it.
It contains nothing but air, I know this because I was the last one to close it.....empty.
I should have tried the combination sometime very soon after getting it home but left the combination at home to try on another day.
Well, "another day " happened to go on for two years up until 3 days ago when I decided it was time to try it.
Lets just say that after about 3 hours in total trying, looking up how to dial a safe combination, looking at a myriad of how to's on you tube and trying to google on images to try and find and identify my safe I've come up with nothing and have comeb to here asking for help.
I will try and upload a photo of it later, a picture describes the 1000 words I've written above but for now the above description is all I have. Maybe if I cant get a pic to upload maybe I can send an email
to someone who can ?
In the meantime, in order for someone to help me, is it wise to list the exact combination I was given with the safe up here or change it to a different set of numbers but use the same dial sequence and directions ?
I live in rural Australia and the nearest locksmiths advertising the ability to open safes are at least 2.5 hours travelling distance from me so you can see why I want to try and get this safe open myself if I can. If would cost an arm and leg if I hired a locksmith living 2.5 hours away and at this point I'm not in a financial position to pour wads of money at this safe.
I bought this safe for a particular reason, this " particular reason " will be starting to happen in about six months time, so I do have six months in which to try and get this safe working.
At the moment it's defeated me but I'm not willing to admit final defeat just yet without putting up some sort of fight.
Apologies for the lengthy post but to get all the info out, it needed to be lengthy.
Can anyone help please?
Cheers from down under in Australia.
