I would be willing to bet that it is quite simple to set a combo. Unless, someone in the past has removed wheels so the only possible combo is 6. I am hoping that the original owner just set all wheels to 6. This can be a very simple process to someone familiar with it or very confusing to a complete novice.
On some of these locks simply rotating the dial 90 degrees and putting it back on will move all numbers 90 degrees also. This is the most simple combo change.
Take off the lock and lay the dial aside. The plate on the lock body should have screws holding it on to the body. Remove the screws. This should expose the combo wheels. Each wheel (probably 3) should have a part that can rotate and be put back down into a hole. Moving this part sets up a new combo on that wheel. Some locks similar to this one actually have numbers on the wheels so you can set the part onto a specific number. Until we see a photo of the insides we cannot be more detailed in the explanation.
Put the plate back on. Reassemble the dial. Looking through the hole on the back you can turn the dial and see when one wheel lines up with the fence ( the bar that moves into the 'gate' on each wheel). You must start with the first number of the combo and turn the dial the opposite direction to get to the second number. You will be viewing the second wheel through the gate of the first wheel. Look at the dial each tome to see what number is aligned with the fence for each wheel. Turn opposite again to get the last number. The dialing sequence will be: Right-3, Left-2, Right-1 to open.
I know this is a very minimal explanation. While you have the plate off the lock look at what happens and learn what it is doing. Good luck.
