European rim locks and magnets

Postby Smasmasma » 17 Oct 2020 4:50

I am looking at these kinds of locks
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Deadbolt-Deadl ... B00AZLXVA0

Inside, there is a spring which presses the locking mechanism up. If that spring pressure wasn't there, then the deadbolt would move easily. So I am wondering what kind of stainless steel the mechanism is made of. If it could be pulled against the pressure of the spring with a strong neodymium magnet?
I read there are many kinds of stainless steel and they are not all magnetic. Anyone have an idea about these kinds of locks? I guess I'm not the first person to think about this..so probably its not realistic.
Thanks.

In this case you might be the first person to think about it.
I'm very familiar with this type of lock, still common in the Netherlands.

Just look at this from a practical stand point:
The mechanism has a strong spring,
The lock is mounted on the inside of a 2" door,
The case is iron/steel.

What size magnet would you feel safe to carrying around?

Thanks for the reply!
I guess I was imagining just that it would be accessible the lock, just locked. Like no wooden door in the way. So putting the magnet directly under the lock case.

But I don't really know anything about magnets or springs and force so I'm not sure how strong/big it would need to be.
