Automatic Photo decoding of keys

Postby laserkey » 14 Jul 2023 0:57

I've seen some apps that convert photo to bitting like https://cq.cx/key.html or this project https://github.com/MaximeBeasse/KeyDecoder but you got to select the key points and align the key manually. I read about keyme and this app seemed to 90% of the time ask for a human to interact with the decoding and now that feature seems to be gone from the keyme app so they just gave up?

The same with this paper https://cseweb.ucsd.edu/~savage/papers/ ... Decode.pdf - need to manually select points.

This is lame as if I need to select points, I can just use calipers.

Has anyone seen an app that actually works to give the bitting from a photo with no user interaction eg automatic bitting decoding from an arbitary image of a key?

Sounds like a good job for AI.

I have not seen any apps that figure it out on their own.

Have not used KeyMe since trying it out before when I wrote this review. Hope it has improved.

I wrote an AI photo key decoder web demo. Check it out free here http://fslerp.com:5000/
Appreciate any comments on accuracy as I only have a few keys to work with but should work with schlage and kwikset. Should add others like master key etc later if any interest in it.

Give me a few days (till Monday night) and I can scan in a bunch of cut keys so you can improve accuracy.

This looks very interesting, thanks for making it.

If you have them with encodings that's very helpful eg can judge accuracy.
