While I admit a certain level of frustration with certain new users, I think that we may have overstepped the line.

From this point on, we don't tell users to go do ANYTHING to themselves. Anatomically impossible or not.

We will attempt to refrain from calling any of our users names, or calling into question their intellectual abilities.

Oh, and please do try to refrain from spewing invective or obscenities that result from feelings of frustration. Cursing at a situation from time to time may be acceptable. Cursing at a person is not normally considered polite.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this.

For those who think that the flaming done in this topic is wrong. Take a look at Kraft's other posts. He's been directed nicely to places where he can find info...again...and again. And though no one deserves any kind of horrible verbal abuse, one must face the consequences for their actions.
Lock picking is an art, not a means of entry.

I like skolds approach.

"I Luke will no longer flame n00bs or help them with their noobish problems bar introduce them to the search button."
"I took the path less travelled by and that made all the difference"

Wolfie brings up some valid usability defects which, not surprisingly, new users get pilloried for- sort of like some kind of initiaion ritual.

The most common bitching is mostly reaction to users being unable to find topics of interest. Well, the search funcition on this site is a mere hyperlink and most folks are accustomed to seeing the good 'ol text box and search button. Once results are yeilded nothing indicates relevance to the search term.

Imagine you're new in town, you want to do some research at the library so you ask the librarian, 'Where's the card catalog" you get "Hey idiot, don't you know where the card catalog is?" followed by 4 other librarians with similar venom.

Time for some positivity; I am really thankful for being allowed to sign up for free and post topics with images to boot. Other forums want a subscription fee for less freedom.

Instead of flaming newbies and moderators wasting their time telling folks how a web site works instead of sharing dazzling insights, can we see some minor layout changes ?

Thanks.

Very positive response. There are some changes on the way, but I can't say when they are coming. I expect to see them sometime early in the new year, but that depends a lot on Mr. Pick's schedule.

Believe it or not, we HAVE been paying attention and have been working on the types of changes and additions we are hoping to see.

There are some exciting things in the works.

In the meantime, hopefully we can get by as best we can since LP101 has become so popular.
