Village Life on hold

Postby phil60 » 23 Jan 2005 11:33

Here's the problem. The Village has a large notice board with four glass panel wood framed doors behind which are the notice boards for local events, meetings etc. Three of the keys are lost. One is ok and reveals that the lock is a 2 1/2 inch brass cabinet lock and says legge 3 lever. The frames close on to a rebate.

As the local cabinet maker Ive been asked to sort it. The whole thing is very solid and well made in hardwood and the frames are 1inch thick so to try and pick the locks you are restricted by the long keyhole.

As a complete novice to lock picking does anyone have any ideas. The alternative is to take it away on a truck to my workshop, take it apart and rebuild it with new locks. Bear in mind its in the middle of the village square and its freezin at the moment. And its a freebie!!!!

a 3 lever legge is not going to be a big deal and i suspect 2 pieces of wire will do it ... where abouts are you Phil, certainly if local to me, I would pop over and deal with it for you ... i'm sure others would help too, especialy if you let them keep the lock afterwards .... :-)

Where in the UK are you ?. Maybe a local member could offer some assistance ?.

The 1" frame shouldn't present a problem if picking using wires.

Thank you guys for your interest..I live in East Preston in West Sussex about 4 miles west of Worthing. so if anyone lives real close and want an interesting morning Ill see to it that a pint is waiting.

There's no rush though its apparently been like it for a year or so. I might even have time to learn to pick it myself.

I've only just joined but what a fascinating site.

Come on guys - anyone local enough to take on the challenge ?. Shouldn't be too taxing for the majority of members, and pint awaits you. You might even get your business card in the notice board.

of all the 3 lever locks guys , the legge is one of the trickiest, you will struggle with 2 in 1 pick and jigglers dont always even get near them, 2 wires are best attack, good luck.

If the door's open towards you, see if you can get a grinder to the bolt?
i'd pop by and jiggle it if i was around that area, and i could well be next week! i'll pm you if a possibility arises!
An open mind can open anything
