Jaquar Ignition

I had customer bring a 1988 Jaguar XJ6 ignition. X177 Key Blank. I am trying to get the cylinder out so I can remove a broken key. I have tried everything and cannot get the cylinder out of the ignition body. The key is broken at the #2 cut from the bow and key extractors will not work. Any tips? Thanks

Try inserting the rest of the key and turning the ignition so you can then release it. I think mad mick, aaalocksmiths or autolox are the guys to answer this one fully though.
This thread made help as well http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?p=66755&highlight=#66755

Yes tomush is right. if the barrel will turn with the rest of the key you can remove it by depressing the release. if I remember rightly this is at one click i think your reference is ilco :?: I use the silca ref WAS13R, if its the same blank it's difficult to remove with a normal extractor but a spiral extractor should work.
but be prepared for a frustrating time :(

just thought, if you can pull the key back till it comes up against the tumbler, then insert the rest of the blank slowly and at the same time put slight turning pressure on the key, you should be able to line it up and turn the barrel
this sounds like a lot of messing about but its saved my neck loads of time

Don't use the super glue or blutac method

If all esle fails there is usually a small grub screw or pin that has to be undone or pushed in then the cylinder will come out, you have to have it on the first switch position though.
Im not entirely familiar with the xj6 internals but im sure this will allow you to remove the assembly.

if the barrel is already in position 1 he would not be able to remove the key as all the tumblers are set and these are keeping the key blade in i assumed the barrel was not already engaged
