ive been doing alot of research on how to pick locks lately because i think this looks very interesting, all i was wondering is why wouldnt a uncut key open up a lock?? it pushes all the pins up. i know it wouldnt work, im just curious to know why?

Each pin set (there is a top and bottom pin) has to be pushed up to the right height. The gap between the two pins must be right at where the cylinder wall is so the metal pins don't block it from turning. Hope that helps, check the MIT Guide for a LOT better explaination.

Good, research is good.... :)

all i was wondering is why wouldnt a uncut key open up a lock?? it pushes all the pins up. i know it wouldnt work, im just curious to know why?

 *sigh* Research didn't work.... things called shear lines. Basically, the whole POINT of a lock is to have a mechanism that can only be opened with a certain key. The reason this certain key opens the lock is because it has the correct tumbler combination cut into the blade. If a blank could open a lock, then why have a lock in the first place? Why bother cutting this magic blank if it opens all locks?

*sigh again* Tumblers must be raised to the correct height to allow the rotation of the plug. Whether it be pins, wafers, whatever, they must be at the correct height (the shear line) or else they will get stuck in the shell and the plug will not rotate, hence not opening the lock.

I know you're new, so I didn't want to flame you too bad, but please..... PLEASE :x , research some more, read the FAQ section and take it all in.

P.S. When in doubt..... use thermite.....

What's thermite? And how can I get it?

Will it save me from buying a pick set?

Can I pick a master #3 with it?

Does the MPX Turbo Nutter B*stard kit come with thermite?

If I get the handle-less kit, can I get thermite as an option?

I've picked all the locks around my house, with a bobby pin. Will a thermite kit make me a better picker?

Will my questions about thermite result in flames?

:P

I think I might have used too much, or is this bring a tear to your eyes and drop you to your knees burning sensation normal when I urinate? Should I use more? I'm so confused.

No! That is cystitis...go see a doctor. Quick, before it drops off.

http://home.howstuffworks.com/lock-picking4.htm
This shows an incorrect key being inserted into a lock, and then shows a correct key.
This should clear up any misunderstanding

Thanks Mick, for those people that are confused;

Cystitis is an infection of the bladder, but the term is often used indiscriminately and covers a range of infections and irritations in the lower urinary system. It causes burning sensations during urination and a frequent need to urinate.

Lets just hope it is cystitis, there are a lot of nasty venereal diseases out there  Ezer, your using condoms right

Must resist urge to make a post with crude innuendo.

Here I am trying to be a good boy and not take this thread any farther
down than I already brought it, but you're not making it easy on me.

Gee guys. I don't know whether to lock this up or sit back and laugh. Meh. Everybody's being good to each other... but after you've all had your fun I hope you don't mind if this thread disappears. :)

Cheers!

You have to remember to use smileys (emoticons, whatever...) to show that you're joking. You are joking right?
