possible to open deadbolt...

Postby xtman » 10 Aug 2005 14:30

Im new to lockpicking and did a search but coulnt find an answer. If it has been answered before please let me know :D A friends son got locked in a washroom that had a deadbolt that worked independantly from the doorknob lock. I think it was a deadlock bolt from what info I can find from searches. The deadbolt could only be opened from the inside via a knob and not picked from the outside. Does anybody know if there is a way to open it? We could've taken the hinge pins out (they were on the outside), not sure if that would have worked. We did get him out though...he was able to turn the knob from the inside so he is now safe :) Any thoughts? Thanks for taking the time everybody...

O.K. I'm in a good mood today:

1. Please fill out your profile as Quiclocks suggested
2. On the side of the door without the knob, is there a keyhole, or nothing but the regular door knob?

I'm guessing if the answer to number 2 is no, then you have a lock that is attached to the door and slides into a housing attached to the jamb. As this lock has no key, just a knob it can't be picked. You could possible bypass it with a piece of plastic or even a butter knife in which you slowly work the bolt back keeping some pressure on the door so the bolt doesn't slide back.

-hope this helps

Here's a tip...if there's a deadbolt on a washroom door that has no exterior access (ie. keyway) these are sometimes called Half-bore deadbolts, and they do NOT belong on washroom doors.

My advice would be to take that thing off the door and plug the hole. Then go down to your local hardware store or locksmith and purchase a "privacy function" lockset.

Depending on what you're doing in there, that might be a very nice lock to have.
